Key Responsibilities

1. Provision of effective nutritional services to all clients of the clinic.

  • Assess clients’ nutritional and health needs e.g. pregnant moms, children and adults.

  • Counsel patients on any dietary issues and healthy eating habits. 

  • Create educational material about healthy eating habits

  • Managing available resources effectively and efficiently in meeting the needs of the clients.

  • Consult with clients to determine their nutritional needs and diet restrictions.

  • Evaluates individual or group dietary needs and develops nutritional careplans.

  • Advises clients and their families about special diets, healthy eating and smart shopping.

  • Speak to group clients about the importance of nutrition to prevent specific diseases.

  • Assess, create and modify existing diet plans and menus.

  • To manage, coordinate and implement the organizations nutrition programmes.

  • Plan events based on nutrition calendar to promote healthy eating and lifestyle

2. Maintain constructive working relationships with dietitian, nurses and other stakeholders (inter-professional, inter-sectoral and multi-disciplinary teamwork)

  • Collaborate with members of the health and social care teams and participate in decision making pertaining to health care delivery

  • Consult with the multidisciplinary health teams, organizations and special interest groups when dealing with community health issues and needs

  • Ensure the disseminate information on food quality, nutritional diseases, maternal and infant morbidity and mortality and other common diseases.

3. Administrative duties

  • Workplan: Daily, weekly and monthly client activity

  • Monthly stock  take of supplements

  • Collection of various statistics

  • Keep accurate records and reports

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition or related 

  • Completed 12 months of community service

  • Primary health care and /NGO experience would be advantageous

  • Must be registered with HPCSA

  • Proficient in IsiXhosa and English

Location: Port Elizabeth

Start date: 1 July 2025.
